- AI is an amplifier. If you have a well-designed process, AI can deliver tremendous value. But if your processes are poor and your data is inconsistent, AI simply amplifies those weaknesses, says Camilla Weber.

A key part of the transformation was increasing the share of electronic invoices while ensuring the incoming data was structured, complete, and reliable.

- Today, 97% of Veidekke's invoices are received electronically, says Endre Hansen, Eye-share System Manager at Veidekke. 

The company also standardised key elements across the organisation, including:

• Roles and responsibilities.

- Today, we have live data in eye-share that we can access at any time. The faster invoices move through the process, the more accurate our financial reporting becomes and the better our project teams can monitor costs, says Camilla Weber.

When invoice data becomes strategic insight 

For Veidekke, invoice data serves a much greater purpose than processing payments and maintaining financial records. It has become a valuable source of business insight. For example, CO₂ emissions data from ready-mix concrete is extracted directly from electronic invoices. 

- Veidekke has set ambitious sustainability goals, including a 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2045. To achieve that, we need reliable, high-quality data, says Ole Martin Landsem.

Using structured electronic invoice data, Veidekke can also validate item-level pricing against supplier agreements and project estimates, helping ensure greater cost accuracy and control.

Technology only works when people embrace it 

The implementation wasn't just about introducing new technology or automating processes.

It was about building confidence across the organisation.

Veidekke began by running pilot projects in selected companies, developing practical support tools, and working closely with project managers and employees across the country to ensure a smooth transition.

- The biggest part of the job has been meeting project managers across Norway and saying, 'This is how we're going to do it.' Our role has been to guide them through the change and make sure they feel supported every step of the way, says Camilla Weber.

As expected, the early stages brought some challenges and a degree of scepticism around AI and automation.

Through close collaboration, training, and a gradual rollout, that scepticism was replaced with trust.

- Meeting with teams across all our companies has been incredibly valuable. We've built much stronger relationships with them than we had before, says Endre Hansen.

Secure automation

Built on trust, security, and strong governance

For Veidekke, security and control are embedded throughout the entire finance process. 

Control is no longer just about bank accounts and payments. It's about how roles, permissions, and responsibilities are designed within the system, so that internal controls are built into the process itself, says Camilla Weber.

As a cloud-based platform, eye-share is designed with security, access management, and internal controls at its core. The platform supports organisations across industries such as construction, energy, healthcare, banking, the public sector, and defence- sectors where security, compliance, and auditability are essential. 

- We do everything we can to ensure the highest possible level of security, says Torhill Gysland Falnes.

Eye-share is ISAE certified and continuously invests in security, governance, and compliance as an integral part of both the platform and its operations. 

Looking ahead

Veidekke sees automation and AI as strategic enablers for future growth and scalability.

The goal isn't necessarily to reduce headcount, but to handle increasing volumes with the same organisation—while continuing to improve quality, efficiency, and financial insight.

- It's rewarding to know we're contributing to the business by supporting growth without increasing our costs at the same pace, says Camilla Weber.

The collaboration between Veidekke and eye-share continues to evolve as both companies explore new opportunities to drive automation and innovation. 

If we don't keep moving forward now, we won't be competitive in five or six years, says Ole Martin Landsem.
