What is AI Capture?

AI Capture is an AI-powered document interpretation engine in eye-share Capture that automatically extracts and understands information from documents such as invoices.

Unlike traditional OCR, AI Capture analyzes both the content and context of a document to identify relevant information.

How is AI Capture different from traditional OCR?

Traditional OCR primarily focuses on reading text from predefined areas or templates.

AI Capture goes further by:

  • Understanding document structure and meaning

  • Adapting to different invoice layouts

  • Handling variations in formatting

  • Interpreting complex scenarios and poor-quality documents

  • Supporting handwritten and machine-written content

  • Using AI reasoning rather than fixed extraction rules

What document types can AI Capture process?

AI Capture is designed to process a wide range of business documents, and the AI engine is not dependent on specific layouts or setups to extract the correct information.

Does AI Capture require templates or zone configuration?

AI Capture does not rely on predefined templates, zones, or patterns in the same way as traditional OCR solutions. Instead, it uses prompts and contextual understanding to identify and extract information from documents.

Are patterns part of Capture AI?

Patterns are not part of Capture AI. Capture AI uses artificial intelligence to identify and extract information from documents based on prompts, context, document structure, and content.

For example, the Invoice Number field is based on a generic prompt that works across all documents in a folder or job. There are no supplier-specific patterns or configurations, which means the maintenance traditionally required for individual suppliers is no longer needed.

What happens to all the patterns?

The pattern jobs/profiles can be stored so customers can return from Capture AI to Capture with pattern without creating setup all over again.

What is a Prompt in Capture AI?

A prompt is a field-specific description that helps Capture AI understand what information should be extracted from a document. Instead of relying on supplier-specific rules or patterns, the prompt describes the type of information the AI should look for, such as an invoice number, invoice date, PO number, total amount etc.

How does Capture AI use Prompts?

Capture AI uses the prompt together with the document's content, structure, and context to identify the most relevant value for a field. The prompt acts as guidance for the AI, helping it distinguish between similar values that may appear on the document.

Can Prompts be customized?

Prompts can be refined to better describe the information being extracted. Clear and well-defined prompts can improve extraction accuracy, especially fields that may be represented differently across documents. Prompts can only be edited by superusers.

What languages are supported?

AI Capture offers extensive language support and can process documents in more than 300+ printed languages and subset of handwritten languages.

Can AI Capture handle poor-quality or handwritten documents? AI Capture is designed to interpret:
  • Low-quality scans
  • Difficult invoice layouts
  • Handwritten content
  • Mixed handwritten and printed documents
How does AI Capture determine confidence? Every extracted field receives a confidence score.
Customers can configure confidence thresholds:
  • At profile level
  • At individual field level
Fields below the configured threshold can be automatically flagged for verification, while high-confidence values can be processed automatically. 
Can we decide which fields require stricter validation?
Customers can choose higher confidence thresholds for critical fields such as:
  • Supplier
  • Invoice number
  • Invoice date
  • Purchase order number
  • Total amount
Less critical fields can have lower thresholds to maximize automation. 
Can we see why a value was extracted?

AI Capture provides field-level traceability showing the source of extracted values and confidence levels, helping users understand how information was identified and why it was selected.

Why can't I always see the extracted value highlighted in the document?
AI Capture uses reasoning and contextual understanding.
In some situations, the returned value may not appear exactly as written in the document.
For example:
  • The document may contain "US Dollar"
  • AI Capture returns "USD"
The AI understands that both represent the same currency, even though exact text differs. 
What happens if AI Capture is uncertain?
When the confidence score falls below the configured threshold:
  • The document must be verified by a user before it can be sent from capture. Either by accepting the information found or by changing to a different value
  • Business expressions can be applied as an additional validation layer
Will users need retraining when switching to AI Capture?

AI Capture uses the same familiar eye-share Capture interface to keep training requirements at a minimum. The primary change is the interpretation engine running behind the scenes. Training to introduce setup, use etc will be provided as a part of delivery.

Infrastructure, security & compliance

Where is AI Capture hosted?

AI Capture is hosted within the Eye-share cloud environment and utilizes Microsoft Azure services for document interpretation and AI processing. The solution is designed to operate within supported Eye-share cloud regions.

Which AI technologies are used?

AI Capture combines Azure AI Document Intelligence with Azure OpenAI AI models to extract and interpret information from documents.

The solution uses both document understanding and AI reasoning capabilities to identify relevant information, even when layouts and formats vary.

Is customer data used to train AI models?

Customer-specific data is used to train AI models.

Documents are processed for extraction and interpretation purposes only. Customer data remains isolated within the customer's environment and processing context.

Does AI Capture store our documents?

Documents are stored according to the customer's existing Eye-share Capture configuration and retention settings.

AI Capture itself performs document analysis and extraction but does not change the customer's existing document retention policies.

Is customer data shared between customers?

Each customer's documents, configurations, prompts, and extracted data are processed independently and are not accessible by other customers.

Are documents sent outside of Microsoft Azure?

AI Capture utilizes Microsoft Azure services as part of the interpretation process. The processing flow is built on Azure AI Document Intelligence and Azure OpenAI technologies and stays within Microsoft, no other third parties are used.

How is data protected during processing?
Data is protected using industry-standard security controls provided by Microsoft Azure and the Eye-share platform.
Security measures include:
  • Secured communication channels
  • Controlled access to customer environments
  • Authentication and authorization mechanisms
  • Audit and activity logging
Can customers control who can view AI prompts and settings?

AI-related settings and functionality are controlled through user permissions within eye-share Capture.

Administrators can determine which users are allowed to configure AI settings and review AI-related information.

Is logging and traceability available?
AI Capture includes activity logging and traceability features that help administrators understand:
  • Configuration changes
  • Prompt modifications
  • Interpretation activity
  • Source of extracted values
This supports both troubleshooting and auditing processes. 
Is AI Capture GDPR compliant?

AI Capture is designed to support customers operating under GDPR and other privacy regulations by using data zone models

How are AI models updated?

One of the advantages of AI Capture is that it is designed to be future-ready.

Newer AI models can be adopted without requiring customers to recreate document templates or redesign extraction profiles, helping organizations benefit from ongoing AI improvements.

Can AI Capture run on-premises?

AI Capture utilizes cloud-based AI services for document understanding and interpretation. The AI processing capabilities are therefore dependent on the cloud infrastructure used by the solution.
